Subject Knowledge Enhancement Courses

Bath Spa University is able to make an offer of a teacher training place with the condition of completing a SKE course prior to the start of the PGCE course.

SKE courses are available if:

  • your degree wasn’t in your chosen subject, but is closely related
  • you studied the subject at A level, but not at degree level
  • you have an unrelated degree, but relevant professional experience in the subject

Eligibility excludes anyone who has a degree in their chosen ITT subject that was awarded in the previous 5 years. The need for an applicant to complete a SKE is identified as part of their selection process, usually at interview. Training costs are covered by the DfE. Participant bursary funding is £175 per week for the duration of the course.

SKE courses are available in these subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Computing
  • Design & Technology
  • English
  • Languages
