The GCSE grade requirements if you want to train to teach are:
Minimum GCSE grade 4/C (or overseas equivalent) in Maths and English to teach at secondary level
Degree requirements
You normally need at least a 2:2 degree to gain QTS, but we may consider other applicants with significant school experience.
For secondary teaching your degree is normally expected to be in a related subject to the subject you are applying to teach, although Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses are available.
If you have overseas equivalent qualifications, please contact us.
Pre-Course checks
Once you secure a place on our training course, you will need to complete the following Bath spa University documents as part of the admissions process:
Fitness to Teach questionnaire – these may take up to eight weeks to clear and this must be done before you can begin your course
A career in teaching has its own unique challenges, and we expect our applicants to be able to demonstrate a commitment to working with young people of secondary age. Ideally, you should have some recent experience in a UK state school. If you don’t have recent classroom experience, please get in touch. We run an active School Experience programme, and are happy to offer anyone considering a teaching career the opportunity to spend a day observing teaching in one of our schools, subject to the relevant safeguarding checks.
