Transport

Transport

Free school transport is only available to students in year 7 – 11 who live more than three miles from St John’s and within the transport catchment area as determined by Wiltshire Council.  This is reduced to two miles for students who receive free school meals or the maximum level of working tax credit.

To apply for free school transport please complete the Under 16 application form, available from the download section below.  Students are then allocated to buses by Wiltshire Council Passenger Transport.

Approximately half of our students travel to St John’s by bus.  For Health & Safety reasons, it is extremely important that parents do not drop students off or collect from the St John’s car park, instead we ask that students are dropped off at George Lane car park and walk up the hill from Ducks Meadow.

At the end of the day students are lined up in the atrium or sports hall under their bus number.  Duty staff will then call the bus number and send students to the top of the car park to board their bus safely.

Students are issued with a bus pass which they must show to the driver on request.  Failure to carry the bus pass will trigger a ‘3 strike system’, which could result in the student being refused travel.  A very high standard of behaviour is expected from students using the buses.  All students are instructed to report any problems to school staff.  If poor behaviour is a problem, a warning letter will be sent home and students can lose the privilege of free school transport.

Sixth form students who live over three miles from the Academy and are within catchment are eligible to apply for a reduced-rate pass to travel from home to St John’s. Full details of this scheme and application forms are available from the Wiltshire Council website www.wiltshire.gov.uk in the Transport to Schools and Colleges section or telephone the Wiltshire’s Passenger Transport Unit on 01225 757004.
