St John’s serves over 250 square miles of North East Wiltshire. Approximately half of our students travel to St John’s by bus. For Health & Safety reasons, it is extremely important that parents do not drop students off or collect from the St John’s car park.
With over half our students using buses we have put in place an effective end of day system to ensure everyone can board their bus in a calm and timely manner. Students are lined up in the atrium or sports hall under their bus number. Duty staff will then call the bus number and send students to the top of the car park to board their bus safely.
A very high standard of behaviour is expected from students using the buses. All students are instructed to report any problems to the staff. If poor behaviour is a problem, a warning letter will be sent home and may result in children losing the privilege of transport to and from St John’s.
Free school transport is only available to students in Years 7 – 11 who live more than three miles from St John’s and within the St John’s catchment area (excluding the catchment areas of Burbage Primary School and Easton Royal Academy), although this is reduced to 2 miles for students who receive Free School Meals or receive the maximum level of Working Tax Credit. Students are allocated to buses by Wiltshire’s Passenger Transport Unit: telephone number 01225 713004.
Students are issued with a bus pass which they must show to the driver or bus inspectors on request. Failure to carry the card could mean a student being refused transport. All Year 7 – 11 students new to St John’s must apply for bus passes: application forms are available from Student Services or County Hall.
Sixth form students who live over three miles from the Academy and are within catchment are eligible to apply for a reduced-rate pass to travel from home to St John’s. Full details of this scheme and application forms are available from the Wiltshire Council website www.wiltshire.gov.uk in the Transport to Schools and Colleges section or telephone the Wiltshire’s Passenger Transport Unit on 01225 757004.
