Sports development application submitted

The St John’s planning application that will provide new sport and recreation facilities for the school’s 1700+ students is now available to view on the Wiltshire Council Planning portal. The consultation period ends on 24th February, with a target decision date of 24th March.

The development is planned as the result of a shortage of sports facilities, increasing housing stock, and a lack of outdoor social space, leading to overcrowding.

Wiltshire Council is now inviting comments on the application. We know that many people supported the application in the recent consultation, and highlighted the need for additional facilities for students, and we’re now asking people to add their views to the planning portal, prior the the application being considered in March, to demonstrate the level of support for the development among the local community, and to ensure we are able to consider and address any concerns.

The area outside the main entrance has been earmarked for development for many years, but a lack of funds meant the area was mothballed. The development has now been funded by S106 developer contributions of almost £1 Million, plus our own funding. We have the funds in place to complete the basc project, but will need to raise £200,000 to put all the planned external work in place.

The new sports facilities will be sited at the Southern boundary of St John’s, adjacent to the Sixth form block, on the right of the image below.
