St John’s students contribute to Marlborough Litfest

Twelve St John’s Sixth Form students launched the 2023 Marlborough Literature Festival on 28th Sept in the Town Hall, in a lively debate focused on the novel “The Great Gatsby”, debating the theme:

“Can male writers ever really write accurately about women in love?”

The students involved were Caitriona Durack, Beth Atkin, Ava Duncan, Kayleigh Timbrell, Arthur Packham, Oskar Anstey, Sammy Till-Vattier, Nancy Nicholls, Emma Wing, Georgina Sleight and Niamh Hourd.

We were also delighted to welcome author Chris Vick to St John’s as part of the Lit Fest’s Big School Read. Chris spoke to the whole of Year 7 about his novel Girl Boy Sea, which was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. Students had been encouraged to read the book, so had plenty of questions for Chris.
