In Year Transfers

In-Year Transfers

Welcome to the In-Year Transfer page for entry to St John’s.

In-Year Transfer applications are used for children moving into the local area or transferring from another school.

All In-year transfer applications for St John’s are administered by Wiltshire Council, regardless of which Local Authority you live under.

For In-Year admissions to St John’s Marlborough, applications can be submitted to Wiltshire Council up to four school weeks before the desired start date.  If a place is offered, your child will be expected to begin attending within 28 school days.

The exception to this is for In-Year places starting in September 2026; applications for these can be made eight weeks in advance – therefore you will be able to apply from 15th June 2026 and your application will be considered from 8th July 2026.

If your child is currently studying at another school and you would like them to transfer to St John’s, please apply through the external weblinkWiltshire County Council.

If a place is offered, your child will be expected to begin attending their new school within 28 school days.

Please note: Applications can only be submitted eight weeks in advance of the required admission date.

Our  Admission Policy details how all admissions applications to St John’s are processed. St John’s is able to offer places to students until such time as our Planned Admission Number (PAN) for the requested year group is reached. Should we have no space available you will be advised by Wiltshire Council.

If you would like to join the waiting list for your year group, please contact the school to request to be added. Your application’s position on our waiting lists will be determined by applying our Oversubscription Criteria (Page 5 of our Admission Policy) and not by date of application.

Waiting List

If and when a place becomes available in your requested year group and you are at the top of the list, we will contact you with an offer. If you no longer wish to remain on our waiting list, please do let us know.

Appeals

Applicants who have had their application to St John’s Marlborough refused, have the right to submit an appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel. Please contact us directly within 28 days from the date of the refusal letter and we will send you the relevant form and documentation.

If you are thinking of making an in Year EHCP application, please arrange a meeting with the SEND Team and bring with you a copy of your child’s EHCP. We can then discuss whether St John’s can meet the needs of your child and the next steps. A formal consultation will then need to be made by your child’s LA Lead Worker.

You should not remove your child from their current school until you have made a transfer application and secured a place at St John’s.

Please ensure you include as much information as possible on your application form to allow us to better support you and your child through the transfer process.

If a place is offered and accepted, your child will be expected to begin attending their new school within 28 school days of acceptance.

After you have accepted the offer of a place, your child will be invited in to sit pre-admission assessments in English and Maths; these are not exams and are solely used to initially place students in appropriate sets. Ongoing assessments throughout the school year will provide opportunities for students to move sets, should this be necessary.

Following the assessments, your child’s timetable will then be created and a provisional start date given, which will be within approximately 5-7 school days.
