Year 10 Students Impress at Mock Interviews in Marlborough Town Hall

Year 10 students from St John’s recently stepped into the professional world as they took part in a series of mock interviews held at Marlborough Town Hall. The event provided students with a valuable opportunity to experience a realistic interview setting while developing the confidence and communication skills needed for future employment.

Throughout the week, students met with a range of volunteer interviewers drawn from local businesses and the wider community. Each student participated in a one-to-one interview designed to mirror the expectations of a real job interview. They were asked about their strengths, interests, ambitions, and how they might respond to workplace challenges.

The historic setting of Marlborough Town Hall added to the sense of occasion, helping students appreciate the importance of presenting themselves professionally. Many students commented that although they were nervous at first, the experience quickly became enjoyable and rewarding.

Following each interview, students received constructive feedback from their interviewers. This guidance helped them reflect on their answers, body language, and communication style, giving them practical advice they can use in future interviews, work experience placements, and part-time job applications.

Staff from St John’s praised the students for their maturity, preparation, and willingness to challenge themselves. The mock interview programme is an important part of the school’s careers education, helping students build key employability skills and understand what employers look for in potential candidates.

The school would also like to extend a sincere thank you to the volunteers who generously gave their time and expertise to support the event. Their involvement helped create an authentic and supportive experience that will benefit students as they begin to plan their future pathways.

Overall, the week proved to be an inspiring and confidence-building experience, equipping Year 10 students with skills that will serve them well as they continue their journey beyond the classroom.
