Spring Concert showcases St John’s talent

A report by Harry Chant, Year 12

The St John’s Spring Concert on 13th March was a delightful event that showcased the impressive talents of the school’s music department. The concert was well-attended, including family and friends of students, and featured a variety of musical performances ranging from Jazz Classics to Contemporary Pop, ensuring that there was something for everyone in the audience to enjoy.

The concert began with ‘St John’s Jazz’, led by Miss Staten. The ensemble performed classics including ‘A String of Pearls’ (Glenn Miller), as well as modern favourite ‘Bad Romance’ (Lady Gaga). The pieces set the fun yet professional tone of the evening, leaving the audience thoroughly entertained and impressed.

Other highlights of the evening were the String Ensemble led by George Cardy – who performed a variety of different pieces in varying styles. The School Choir also gave a moving performance. The Preludes (a small orchestra comprising of younger musicians) gave an excellent show, including a rendition of the ‘Star Wars’ theme. It’s clear that the future of the Orchestra is in good hands!

Another extremely memorable performance was a Year 11 Ensemble who immensely impressed the audience with their energetic and virtuosic recital of ‘Mambo Italiano’. The group received an immense round of applause from both the audience and fellow performers alike.

The concert also featured the A-Level Music Students, who gave a graded performance with styles ranging from Classical, to Ballads and Rock.

To finish off the concert, the Orchestra performed an Elton John Medley conducted by Mrs Crang, which was the perfect end to yet another incredible concert!

A massive thanks to Mrs Crang and Miss Staten – this Concert would not have been possible without their hard work and dedication to the department!
