Swindon Schools Football Cup – St John’s Reach the Final!

Congratulations to the Year 9 football team who have booked their place in the final of the Swindon Football Cup after a dramatic 4-3 win against Braydon Forest in a thrilling semi-final encounter.
Braydon Forest took the lead three times in the match, but were pegged back on each occasion by the brilliance of George Bourton, who scored all four goals for St John’s in a stunning individual display.
The game started with Braydon striking first, only for Bourton to level with a calm finish. The visitors scored again, going 2-1 up before Bourton equalised shortly before half time.
In the second half, Braydon Forest looked to be heading for victory after making it 3-2. But their momentum stalled when they missed a crucial penalty. Scott Roberts produced a superb save to deny them. However, the moment galvanised St John’s and Bourton completed his hat trick before firing a spectacular fourth goal to finally give his side the lead for the first time.
Despite their efforts, Braydon Forest couldn’t find a response and St John’s held on to secure a memorable win.
It was a match of fine margins, but with Robert’s heroics in goal and Bourton’s sensational finishing, St John’s earned their sport in the final the hard way.
Congratulations to both teams, you both demonstrated team work and resilience in an exciting semi-final game.
