St John’s are Y7 Rugby Champions!
St John’s 45 – 5 RWBA
St John’s Y7 rugby team have been crowned Swindon School Rugby champions!
After a successful rugby campaign in which the Year 7 rugby team were undefeated in 4 matches, the team made the journey to Cirencester rugby club for the Swindon Schools Final against RWBA.

First Half
After a strong start St Johns broke the deadlock; some good work at the break down led to us breaking the defensive line and scoring our first try.
RWBA pulled a try back from an incredible run from their Winger. However, the boys heads did not drop. They demonstrated excellent resilience and continued to dominate the ball possession. They created many attacking opportunities without being able to find the final pass.
Our dominance on the ball finally paid dividends towards the end of the half with 2 quick tries. Half time score: STJ 15-5 RWBA.
Second Half
After a few tactical tweaks and some substitutions, St Johns came out the blocks quickly. Ed Hawthorne scored from an incredible run with the ball.
St Johns dominated possession of the ball, the break down and were making lots of strong tackles when not on the ball.
An outstanding last ditch tackle from Harry Reader stopped Bassett from making it 20-10. From then on St Johns didn’t look back, the tries continued to flow, eventually leading to a huge 45-5 win.
A huge shout out to the players in the final, as well as all the other players that played in the earlier rounds, It was a real squad effort!
