Pastoral Support

Most new students settle at St John’s quickly and have a happy and successful journey to their GCSEs and beyond. However, there are occasions when this doesn’t happen and when students have problems, in school or at home, that affect their learning and well-being. St John’s has a robust pastoral support system in place. Students are encouraged to first speak to their class tutor, who will have the pastoral experience and understanding to help new students settle into their new surroundings, meet new people, and will encourage their independence.

Ms Kirkup , Year 7 Keyworker, is on hand to help students, support with any emotional difficulties, and answer any questions parents may have.  Mrs Hawkins, Head of Year 7, and Miss Sankey, Deputy Head of Year 7 are also available to support your child and then deal with more significant emotional or behavioural problems.

Our School Nurse is available to help students with medical needs.

We also have a SEND team, including experienced Teaching Assistants who support  students with special educational needs and disabilities.
