Atrium Library

The Atrium library is available for all students to use and is key in supporting students’ learning, offering a welcoming and comfortable library learning space.
There is a range of resources available to use, such as computers for homework or research, an Accelerated Reader programme and our Resources Shop.

Atrium Library Opening Times: 07.30am-4.30pm

Accelerated Reader Programme

Year 7 students have fortnightly AR lessons in which they can read a book of their own choice at their own level. Once they finish a book, students are then encouraged to complete an AR quiz. This programme promotes reading for pleasure and monitors students’ reading progress through AR quizzes.

All Year 8 students take part in a fortnightly library lesson as part of the Literacy Programme to improve their literacy skills.

Reading Groups

Reading groups are a great way to explore a wide range of books in differing genres, and offers the opportunity to discuss them with other students. Mrs Stokes runs Reading Groups at lunchtimes for every year group.  The groups meet once a week and also take part in the Carnegie Shadowing Scheme.

Topical Displays

We encourage students to develop a love of reading for pleasure through a variety of displays, events and library lessons throughout the year.
Reading in all curriculum areas is very much encouraged and the library plays a key role in supporting students and staff in this.
