St John’s is committed to developing the next generation of teachers, managers, and leaders. We offer clearly defined pathways to success for both teaching and support. We aim to create an environment where our staff can grow and succeed, and the professional and personal development of our workforce is especially important to us. Both St Johns and Excalibur Academies Trust offer a range of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) opportunities, nationally recognised qualifications, and coaching programmes for staff at all levels and from all disciplines, ranging from apprenticeships to national leadership qualifications.

We welcome applications from both experienced and newly qualified teachers for all roles, unless we specify otherwise in the advert. Many teachers at St John’s joined us as newly-qualified teachers before progressing to become great teachers take on leadership responsibilities. In fact, some of our newly qualified teachers took on their first teaching position with us having trained for their PGCE on our School Direct programme.

Working in a Trust school means you get to work in a collaborative environment with other academies. You also benefit from greater opportunities for professional development and promotion, as we encourage movement between our academies to broaden your experience.

If you have an Honours degree, ideally in a relevant subject, you can train to teach as a secondary teacher, based at St John’s. We work with Bath Spa University to develop and deliver cutting-edge teacher training programmes, and offer a School Direct PGCE one-year programme. School Direct is a school-led training programme for graduates who want hands-on training in a school. On a School Direct course you’ll feel part of our school family, and get the chance to learn on the job in at least two different schools, working with experienced colleagues and putting your new skills into practice from day one.

If you would like to discuss your own situation and aims, and find out more about our programme, email AdminTSA@stjohns.excalibur.org.uk or call us on 01672 519575 for an informal, friendly chat.

Your application will always be considered based on your abilities, irrespective of any disability you may have.
