Art Gallery Term 1 2025-2026
Year 7
This term, Year 7 have began exploring the Formal Elements of Art, making experimental pieces using mixed media.
Year 8
This term, Year 8 have been exploring Pablo Picasso’s Guernica painting, making research papers on the computer. They have also been creating a tonal observation drawings of a skull, learning how skulls are often seen in symbolic still life paintings such as Vanitas.
Year 9
This term, Year 9 have been exploring expressive portraits. Students have created very large scale (A2 size) observational drawings of an expressive face using graphite sticks. Many worked from their own photos and they have had to look closely at detail and proportion. Great work Y9!
Year 10
The Year 10 GCSE students’ first project is based on a Circus theme. Students have been thrown into creating large scale oil pastel drawings and mood boards. These have been developed into monoprints (a new technique) which have been painted using acrylic paints.
Year 12
The year 12 photography students have made a fantastic start to the A Level course. They have been learning about different photographic techniques and being creative with imagery. More recently they have been making pinhole cameras, from shoe boxes and developing their images in the darkroom. There have been some great photographs!
