Year 7 are the Swindon Schools’ Rugby Champions!
St Johns 45 – 5 RWBA
After a successful rugby campaign in which the year 7 rugby team were undefeated in 4 matches, the team made the journey to Cirencester rugby club for the Swindon Schools Final against RWBA.
After a strong start St Johns broke the deadlock, some good work at the break down led to us breaking the defensive line and scoring our first try. RWBA pulled a try back from an incredible run from their Winger.
However, the boys heads did not drop, and they demonstrated excellent resilience and continued to dominate the ball possession, creating many attacking opportunities without being able to find the final pass. Our dominance on the ball finally paid dividends towards the end of the half with 2 quick tries to go in at Half –Time with a 15-5 lead.

After a few tactical tweaks and some substitutions, St Johns came out the blocks quickly with Ed Hawthorne scoring from an incredible run with the ball. St Johns dominated possession of the ball, the break down and were making lots of strong tackles when not on the ball.
An outstanding last ditch tackle from Harry Reader stopped Bassett from making it 20-10, but from then on St Johns didn’t look back, the tries continued to flow, eventually leading to a huge 45-5 win.
Try scorers – Edward Hawthorn x2, Teddy Baverstock-Seaman, Joe Harvey, Billy Harvey, Noah Courtney, Max Waine, Elliot Wildin, Zach Sainsbury

RWBA 11 -9 STJ
With many of the squad who featured in the recent Swindon Schools Final taking a well-earned rest, a fresh and enthusiastic group of St John’s Y7’s travelled to Royal Wootton Bassett for a friendly fixture.
RWB kindly supplied a few players to ensure the match could go ahead, setting the stage for a spirited and good-natured contest.

From the first whistle, both teams showed real energy and intent. St John’s settled quickly, moving the ball with confidence and showing excellent teamwork despite the unfamiliar line-up.
The tries flowed throughout, with both sides producing some excellent finishes.
St John’s worked hard, tackled bravely, and showed fantastic determination in every area of the pitch.
The hosts, however, managed to edge ahead, and despite St John’s pushing right to the final whistle, Royal Wootton Bassett secured a well-taken 11–9 victory
