Wiltshire Swimming Gala

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Wiltshire Swimming Gala that took place on Wednesday 7th May.   We put forward 16 students from Years 7 and 8 to compete.  Students had a great day competing against 11 other schools. Behaviour was excellent and the students represented the school really well. There were some fantastic performances from many of our swimmers in a very high standard gala. Most notable was Archie Sherwin, in Year 8, who won every race he took part in.  A huge well done to all.

Cricket

Hard ball cricket has returned to St John’s for students in years 7, 8 and 9, with over 15 students from across the age groups already taking part.  Over the past few weeks, participants have been developing their skills through nets and fielding sessions, showing great enthusiasm and commitment.

The aim is to continue to build on this strong start and eventually arrange competitive matches against other schools. The programme is being supported by Marlborough Cricket Club, providing valuable guidance and expertise.

If you are interested in taking part, please speak with Mr Bye, Mr Broadhurst or Mr Loader for more information.

New Age Kurling: Wiltshire School Games Champions!

Huge congratulations go to Ashley and Shane on winning the Wiltshire School Games New Age Kurling final!

New Age Kurling is all about sliding stones as close as possible to the centre “button” of the target.  So winning the final with the final stone in the centre of the button is an incredible, high pressure finish that shows great skill and composure under pressure.

Congratulations Ashley and Shane!

Kennet Athletics Championships

This week, we took 40 students from Years 7–10 represented St John’s School at the Kennet Athletics Trials at Marlborough College. It was a fantastic afternoon of competition, with all students demonstrating excellent effort, determination and sportsmanship throughout the event. They represented St John’s superbly and were a real credit to the school.
The standard of competition was high across all events, and our students rose to the challenge with some outstanding individual performances.

Some of our standout performances included

  • Arabella B, who produced an excellent double victory by winning both the High Jump and 150m
  • Alex T, who delivered a strong performance to win the Javelin and come 2nd in the Long Jump
  • Evie P, who also achieved a superb double success, winning both the Long Jump (5.26m!) and 100m
  • Alex P, Max H and Edith K who sprinted to victory in the 100m
  • India T, who ran an impressive race to win the 800m
  • Matilda T, who performed well in both Javelin and Discus
  • Zach A, who ran 2 excellent laps to win the 800m
  • Zara R, who dominated the 200m

Congratulations to everyone who took part. It was an excellent afternoon of athletics!

Wiltshire Girls’ Soft Ball Competition

This term St John’s have been competing in the Wiltshire Soft Ball competition.

Results:

STJ 54 runs vs Swindon Academy 34 runs.    The batter of that match was Annabelle Craner, with positive shots and great calling, whilst the best fielder was Matilda Todd, who stopped many balls and threw accurately at the stumps.

STJ 91 runs vs Hardehuish 89 runs. This was our closest game of the tournament. Janice Chiu was outstanding in fielding, with 3 wickets and 2 direct hits.

STJ 82 runs vs Kingsdown 42 runs.  Izzy Hughes hit some brilliant sixes and fours.

Semi-Final: STJ 54 vs Malmesbury 58.  This was a close fought game, down to the very last ball, where Malmesbury required 2 runs to win.  Unfortunately, their batter hit a 4, which meant that we lost by 4 runs.  Malmesbury went on to win the championship.

Congratulations to all girls who took part, you represented the school with pride and determination, truly living up to the values of Ambition, Integrity and Respect.
