Year 7 and 8 Cricket Success
Ten boys proudly represented St John’s at the Wiltshire Schools Softball Cricket Tournament: Ned Paradise, Oscar Nelson, Ben Bailey, Ed Hawthorn, Spencer Cukier, Harry Reader, Oliver Littlewood, Tom Shellard, Felix Stevens and Barnaby Watts.
The team enjoyed an excellent tournament, beginning with three group-stage fixtures. They defeated Lavington School by more than 20 runs before securing another impressive victory over Swindon Academy by 30 runs. Their final group match was against Ridgeway, where they narrowly lost with just six balls remaining.
Finishing second in their group, St John’s progressed to the quarter-finals, where they produced a dominant performance against Abbey Park, bowling the opposition out before chasing down the required total in just three overs. This emphatic victory earned them a place in the semi-finals, where they once again faced Ridgeway. In another closely contested match, St John’s battled brilliantly but fell just short, losing with only three balls remaining.
Reaching the semi-finals of a county tournament is a fantastic achievement, and every player should be extremely proud of their effort, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day. Massive congratulations and well done to all involved!
Athletics
Super 8’s Athletics – Qualification to the Wiltshire School Games Final!
St John’s year 7 team delivered an outstanding performance at the Super 8’s athletics competition, emerging as overall winners against strong opposition from Wellington Academy, Stonehenge, and Avon Valley. Their success secures qualification for the Wiltshire School Games at Dauntsey.
Several athletes produced exceptional individual performances. Seb Beattie impressed in the 100m with a time of 12.89 seconds, while Ed Hawthorn achieved a strong long jump distance of 4.36m. Alex Tapper also excelled in the javelin, recording a throw of 27.85m.
Arabella Broomham was the team’s highest scorer, delivering a standout hurdles performance in 12.9 seconds. Olivia Beynon also contributed with a solid 100m run of 14.09 seconds.
Well done to all students who competed and contributed to a fantastic team achievement.
Impressive Performance in Year 7 and Year 8 Athletics Meet at Dauntsey’s School
St John’s competed in the annual Dauntsey athletics meet, facing strong competition from Downe School, Kingswood, Dauntsey, and Portsmouth Grammar School. Both the Year 7 and Year 8 teams approached the event with determination and gave their best performances throughout the day.
The Year 7 boys were in outstanding form, storming to victory in the 4x100m relay and dominating both the sprint events and the throwing competitions. Their efforts earned them an impressive overall third place finish.
There were also notable individual performances, with Annabel Reicher excelling in the 100m and Sophie Best performing strongly in both throwing events.
Throughout the competition, St John’s students showed excellent teamwork and support for one another, representing the school with pride. Despite the challenging weather conditions, spirits remained high, and the day ended on a positive note with much appreciated refreshments.
Outstanding performances at the Wiltshire Athletics Championships
The County Athletics Championships took place at Swindon Athletics Track on 13th June 2026 in excellent conditions for competition.
Our athletes delivered an outstanding performance securing six County Champion Titles and 11 Podium Finishes across a range of track and field events.
This was an excellent day for the team, with athletes demonstrating commitment, determination and skill across all age groups. The achievement of six County Champion titles and 11 podium finishes reflects the strength and depth of talent within the squad.

St John’s Students Selected to Compete at the English School’s Championship
After competing at the Southwest Schools’ Championships in Exeter, three St John’s students have been selected to represent Wiltshire at the English School Athletics Championships – which is a huge achievement!
Matilda Todd achieve a personal best in javelin, throwing 34m.
Arthur Celliers secured first place in high jump with an excellent performance.
Evie Patterson delivered a record breaking performance in long jump, achieving a personal best of 5.65m. In doing so, she broke a long-standing record that had stood for over 20 years! Following this achievement, Evie is now ranked first in the country!

Amazing St John’s Athletics Leaders
St John’s student leaders excelled at the Primary Athletics School Games held at Marlborough College.
All 16 students took on key roles, leading vortex, track and standing long jump events for 260 primary school participants. Their organisational skills were put to the test, and they rose to the challenge, ensuring the event ran smoothly.
The day provided a fantastic opportunity for Year 5 and 6 pupils to engage with St John’s students, compete against peers from other schools and develop with skills through coaching at each event.
