Sports Reports Term 3: 2025-2026
Year 7 Netball Tournament
The Year 7 netball team represented St John’s at a rescheduled tournament, which took place in very cold conditions.
Despite the challenging temperatures, the girls showed excellent commitment, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout the day.
Across six matches, the team got one win, two draws, and three losses, with several games decided by very small margins.

The close nature of many of the matches reflected the girls’ determination and improving teamwork, as they competed strongly against a high standard of opposition.
The players supported one another well on and off the court and conducted themselves impeccably, always acting as great representatives of St John’s. Their positive attitude and perseverance were particularly commendable given the conditions.
The team finished the tournament in 6th place overall. Well done to all involved for their effort, enthusiasm, and teamwork.
Year 8 Netball
Year 8 Netball Triumph!
A huge well done to the Year 8 girls’ netball team for their emphatic 14–6 victory over Pewsey School!
Brilliant mid-court play from Janice Chiu, Eliza Gill, and Alannah Murch as they kept the game flowing smoothly, linking defence to attack with sharp interceptions and calm, smart passes. Up front, Natalia and Chloe (GS and GA) worked brilliantly together to create and convert scoring chances, dominating the shooting D. Each quarter saw St John’s extend their lead further a confident, well-deserved win!

The Year 9 netball team delivered a dominant performance against Devizes, securing an impressive 28–5 victory.

The Year 10s were involved in a much tighter contest but held their nerve to claim a hard-fought 14–12 win.
The match was competitive from start to finish, with strong defensive efforts and crucial goals at key moments. Anna-Fleur earned Player of the Match for her composure and influential performance in this closely fought game.
Congratulations to both teams!
Year 10: St John’s vs Pewsey
The Year 10 netball team were involved in a nail-biting four quarter match against Pewsey, showing determination and resilience throughout. St John’s started strongly, taking a 5–2 lead in the first quarter and playing with real confidence. In the second quarter, the team continued to work hard, but Pewsey responded well and turned the game around to lead 10–6 at half time.

The final two quarters were very closely contested, with both teams matching each other goal for goal. Despite sustained effort across the court, the game finished 17–12 in Pewsey’s favour.
The match was competitive from start to finish, with Carys Williams and Anna-Anna Fleur Hartman fighting hard to transition the ball from defence into attack and support our shooters.
In the shooting circle, Ella Pitman was calm and composed, converting her chances consistently under pressure. Her influential performance and accuracy under the post earned her a well-deserved Player of the Match award.
Boccia
Eight Year 7 and 8 students from St John’s were invited to take part in the Wiltshire School Boccia Festival, held at Avon Valley Academy. This was the first time our students had experienced playing Boccia, but they quickly picked up the skills needed to be competitive against other schools.
What is Boccia? Boccia is an exciting game that involves rolling a jack ball within a marked playing area. Players then roll, throw, or kick their own balls to get as close as possible to the jack.
Before arriving, the team spirit was already high thanks to an energising pep talk from Ted Hall on the minibus. Once the competition began, students quickly developed tactics to outwit their opponents and refine their game strategy.
Both Toby Robinson and Gwen Jones impressed with their accurate rolls managing to touch the jack several times during their matches. Our red team showed great determination, winning all their games and earning an impressive 4th place finish. With a few more balls landing nearer to the jack, they could have placed even higher. Meanwhile, our blue team delivered a strong performance and secured 3rd place, ending the festival on a real high with an outstanding final match.

Cross Country
St John’s students delivered an excellent showing at the Wiltshire Cross Country Championships on 17th January 2026, representing Kennet across multiple age groups.
The Year 7 boys’ race brought two outstanding results: Zach Airey finished 10th, with Ceilen Naylor close behind in 11th.
Both earned selection for the Wiltshire Team in the South West Championships!
In the Year 7 girls’ race, Rose Biddick impressed with a 14th place finish, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the County squad, but demonstrating strong potential.
Overall, St John’s athlete showed determination, teamwork and real promise for the future!

Table Tennis
Table Tennis Teams Qualify for County Finals
St John’s recently took both a KS3 and KS4 boys’ table tennis team to the School Games area competition, held at St Joseph’s in Salisbury. Throughout the day, the boys demonstrated an exceptionally high standard of table tennis, competing with focus, resilience and sportsmanship.
The key rivals of the tournament were Bishop Wordsworth School, a familiar and formidable opponent, with fixtures between the two schools historically being very closely contested.
The KS4 team delivered an outstanding performance, winning all of their matches to finish first overall. This unbeaten run means they qualify for the county finals in first place – a fantastic achievement.
The KS3 team also impressed. Their only loss came early in the tournament against a strong Bishop Wordsworth side. Showing great character, the team responded superbly, winning all of their remaining matches to secure second place overall and qualification for the county finals.

Congratulations to the following students:
KS4 – Edward Thomas, Arthur Ramsden, Gus Pope and Luke Browning
KS3- Leo King, Jamie Airey, Max Lacey, Barnaby Watts
We wish both teams the very best of luck as they prepare to represent St John’s at county level.
Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to Richard Ramsden for his continued commitment to table tennis at St John’s. Richard runs three after-school table tennis clubs and plays a key role in developing the sport both within the school and across the wider community.
